Learning to Crochet – Lesson 2 – Double Crochet

Last time we learned how to chain and how to single crochet. This time let’s learn how to double crochet! This stitch is pretty easy to do now that you know how to single crochet. So grab your hook and yarn and maybe some tea or coffee, and let’s get started!!

Lets start out with a chain of 22. So you should have the base of 20, and the 2 up.

Once you do that you can start on the double crochet. Wrap the yarn once over your hook and then slide the hook through the 3rd hole from your hook. Pull the yarn through that hole. You should have 3 loops on your hook right now. Take the yarn and pull it through the first 2 loops. Then you should have 2 loops again, and you can take the yarn and pull it through those 2 loops. Tada! Your first double crochet stitch!

Continue this until you have a row of 20 double crochets. Once you’re to the end of the row, chain 2 and then go back across with the double crochet stitch.

When you have 10 rows of double crochet you should have a little square! Make sure and keep these squares so you can make a blanket in the end!
